Hello! My name is Kevin Jones and I am delighted to join the New Earth team as assistant editor. I will work hard to take on the many roles of our departing assistant editor Kristina Bloomsburg.
Though a lifelong Coloradan, I’m drawn to the area through my wife, Keri, who grew up in Dilworth, Minn. We were married at St. Francis de Sales Church in Moorhead in September of 2020, a memorable year in more ways than one. We have just become parishioners at St. Joseph’s Church in Moorhead, and we are praying for St. Joseph’s intercession as we search for a house to buy.
I spent 16 years as a staff writer with Catholic News Agency (now part of the EWTN News family) which for most of that time was based in Denver. I’ve done some investigative work on the role of religion in American diplomacy and on how wealthy funders strategize their attacks on religious freedom. I’ve also traveled to the Middle East to report on Catholic Relief Services’ work to help Syrian and Iraqi refugees displaced by war.
Most of all, I’ve loved reporting on how Catholics live their faith in the world today as individuals, families, parishes, and members of other groups.
I’m coming up on 25 years as a member of the Knights of Columbus, which I joined in college. I’ve been an active member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, an Irish Catholic fraternity, and I helped launch the Denver Chesterton Society to celebrate the Catholic writer G.K. Chesterton. While I have not fished much since my teens, I am happy to have caught a great 34-inch catfish in the Red River on my only local fishing trip so far.
My wife and her family have roots in North Dakota, especially Lisbon and Enderlin, and they’ve taught me a great deal about the area. But I’m looking forward to learning more about Catholics in the Diocese of Fargo and how God’s grace is at work during the cold winters, the beautiful summers, and the times in-between.
I’d like to invite New Earth readers like you to pray for me. As circumstances allow, please introduce yourself to me as I work with my long-time colleagues to tell your stories and to inform, teach, and inspire readers about the Catholic faith and parishioners’ lives here in the Diocese of Fargo. May God bless you and your loved ones!
