Andrzej Noyszewski

Andrzej (Ahn-jay) Noyszewski was born in Poland to Mieczysław Noyszewski and Ewa Noyszewska and has one younger sister. He came to Fargo to pursue a Ph.D. in Genomics and Bioinformatics at North Dakota State University. During his time in Fargo, he became active at the Newman Center and St. Mary’s Cathedral, which became an important spiritual home for him. He met his wife, Lynette, through the Catholic community in Fargo, and they were later married at St. Mary’s Cathedral in 2011.

Andrzej began thinking about priesthood and religious life when he was young. Through prayer and spiritual direction, he eventually came to understand that God was calling him to marriage. Even so, the desire to serve the Church in a deeper way remained. Over the years, that desire has grown through his involvement in Catholic book studies, RCIA, street evangelization, charitable outreach,  jail ministry, and teaching Religious Education. He especially values serving at weekday Masses and tries to do so as often as possible. Being close to the altar has strengthened his reverence for the Eucharist and his desire to serve both the Church and its people.

His work as a scientist has also shaped his vocation. Andrzej seeks to conduct science in an ethical and morally responsible way. He has developed a growing appreciation for philosophy and for the relationship between faith and reason, inspired in particular by St. John Paul II and his teaching that faith and reason work together in the search for truth.

One of the key reasons Andrzej feels called to the diaconate is his desire to offer the Church’s blessings to the people he serves. He sees the diaconate as a fulfillment of his existing ministries and as a way to unite service at the altar with service in the community. As a husband, scientist, and teacher, he hopes to help others grow closer to Christ and recognize that faith, reason, and ethical scientific work belong together.
